Simplr vs Asana

Asana manages work.
Simplr runs client work.

Asana is a strong work-management platform, and its new Client Management brings a client portal and agency AI. Simplr was built by an account manager around the full client relationship, from the first brief to the final invoice.

01 / THE DIFFERENCE

Where Simplr and Asana differ

Both tools now speak to agencies. The difference is how much of the account manager’s job happens inside the product.

  1. 01

    Scope you can point to

In Simplr, the brief becomes a versioned scope the client accepts in the portal. Change requests record price and workload impact, so extra work is a decision, not a surprise.

  2. 02

    The portal from day one

Asana’s client portal is on its Advanced plan. Simplr’s branded portal, with version approvals, briefs and downloads, is on every plan, and clients never need a seat.

  3. 03

    From approved time to invoice

Asana sells timesheets and budgets as an add-on and doesn’t invoice clients. Simplr Plus turns approved time, milestones or retainers into numbered PDF invoices.

03 / THE RIGHT FIT

An honest answer

Choose Simplr if…

  • Most of your work is for clients, and account managers own the relationship
  • You want briefs, accepted scope and change requests in the same place as the work
  • You want a client portal without moving everyone to a higher plan
  • You want to invoice from approved time or retainers without another tool

Asana may suit you better if…

  • You need one tool for many internal departments, not only client teams
  • You rely on portfolios, goals and a deep automation builder
  • You need proofing on PDFs and video; Simplr marks up images today
  • Your team already works in Asana and the cost of switching outweighs the gains

04 / FAQ

Simplr or Asana: common questions

Asana now has Client Management. Isn’t that the same thing?

It moves Asana much closer to agencies, with a client directory, a branded portal on Advanced and AI teammates. Simplr goes further into the account manager’s job: versioned scope the client accepts, change requests with price impact, retainers and client invoicing, with the portal on every plan.

Is Simplr more expensive than Asana?

Per person, Simplr Plus ($50) costs more than Asana Advanced with Timesheets & Budgets ($30.98). Plus also includes client invoicing, retainer billing, email sync and a meeting recorder, which Asana doesn’t include or which agencies often buy separately. Simplr Essentials ($20) includes the client portal, which Asana keeps for Advanced.

Can we move our projects from Asana?

There is no automatic Asana import yet. Most agencies start with their active clients and jobs, and our team helps you set them up during your walkthrough.

Can our clients use Simplr without paying?

Yes. Clients sign in to your branded portal with a one-time code. They never take a seat, on any plan.
